I'm a little confused about the wards.

There was a Ward 33 -- does that mean that there were (at least) 33 different wards in the institution? Was it that you had to "graduate" up the wards to Ward 1 before you could be considered for release (the protagonist's release from Ward 33 notwithstanding)?

It's possible, but it's equally possible they number them like hotel rooms; 3rd ward on 3rd floor.

Nothing against the film, I liked it, but the institution she was in felt strange.
