Seeing the 1940s in color

It was interesting to see the 40s in full color for a change. What other good films are there from the decade that are in full color (excluding period pieces)?

Not too many - The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp (at least parts of it take place in then-present time), Leave Her To Heaven, Black Narcissus (`presumably` then-present time, but it`s hard to tell since it is set in some Tibetian nunnery and folks dress accordingly) and a piece named Cobra Woman. The last one`s a rather bad movie though.

They went back and colorized "Topper". It came out in the late 30's and the colors are supposed to be accurate. It's a beauty. A very fun movie and I love it in color.

It's entirely possible that I am missing the point of your message.

The Wizard of Oz was filmed in Technicolor in '39. Unfortunately, they used sepia tones for all of the in-world segments. Only Oz is in color.

The Red Shoes also from 1948

I wonder if this rare use of color (and the ginormous cameras used to film Rope; see the making of documentary) has something to do with why the credits list two Directors of Photography (as opposed to one of them being fired or quitting midway through).
