Most bizarre meet-cute ever.

When Matt meets the lady while defending the wagons, it's SO strange. They seem to flirt as though they weren't in a really serious situation (even when she's shot by an arrow it doesn't seem to really register). Then for no reason I can see she slaps him. She goes on to describe their meeting by saying "We didn't get along well." or the like when other than the slap they seemed to get along just fine. And then she was suddenly in love with him.

The whole subplot of meeting her seemed like it was inserted to appeal to women in the audience or something. It kind of derailed the story and was very strange and imo forced.

"I'll book you. I'll book you on something. I'll find something in the book to book you on."

Yeah, I kind of agree. If not for Monty Clift, I wouldn't have bought any of that crap. I also found the ending landed a little flat. It didn't have the same dark tone of the rest of the movie and it just tied it up into a way too neat bow. Suddenly John Wayne's character is all brightness and sunshine? What, a good punch in the face fixed his obvious mental issues that raged throughout the movie? John Wayne is underrated as an actor and this movie kind of proves that. He plays a character that seems to slide into madness and then just pops out of it!

Im just after watcing it and that scene was absolutely ridiculous,an arrow goes through her shoulder and she doesnt even blink, just keeps rabbiting on regardless. That ruined the whole movie for me,almost as bad as the ending, total anti-climax,they suddenly become friends after some cheesy speech she makes

The arrow didn't bother me that much, but the ending! What we didn't see is that everyone else rounded up D and hung him.
