Most Redundant Line in Cinematic History

" I don't like quitters, especially ones that don't finish what they start" Huh? Is there another kind?
That's up there with the line from Goodfellas: " Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut". Isn't that really just the same thing?
But anyway, this is my favorite Howard Hawks movie. It contains what is definitely one of John Wayne's best performances.

Haha
never thought of that.

I guess a cowhand could have joined along the trail after the drive started and then went AWOL, but you do make a good point.

'Get some sleep/rest.'

One hears it endlessly in films and television episodes past and present. It's a cliche that should DIE.

Bored now.

You've misquoted what John Wayne said so it doesn't make much sense.

The actual line is "I don't like quitters ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH to finish what they start".

Dunson is having a double dig here, great line.

reply

Perhaps not super redundant in cinema history, but another line from this movie was seemingly copied.

John Wayne says

I'll catch up with ya. I don't know when, but I'll catch up. Every time you turn around, expect to see me, 'cause one time you'll turn around and I'll be there.

And in Bend of the River (1952), Jimmy Stewart says
You'll be seeing me. You'll be seeing me. Everytime you bed down for the night, you'll look back to the darkness and wonder if I'm there. And some night, I will be. You'll be seeing me!

reply

I believe that's called a tautology, but I could be wrong.

reply

Yes that's correct.
