I hate most comedies but...

..just saw this film for the first time yesterday and laughed myself silly. This is one of my new favs. While I'm not a big fan of Cary Grant, he is spot on in the movie. Almost as good if not better than he is in "The Awful Truth", which I highly recommend to those who have never seen it. Classic comedies, and not overdone.

"Okay, why don't you tell me Miss Thin, Standing Up, Female Buddha."

Wish it weren't trying so hard to be "heart warming" in several scenes. Loy, Grant, and Douglas made their careers on wit rather than guffaws or lectures. The speeches about family life, young couples, etc., make strange bedfellows with a trio whose humor is naturally dry.

But this was post-war America and tastes had changed. Although it's no *Awful Truth* or *The Women,* it's a thoroughly enjoyable film and credit for most of that is due to the three outstanding actors in the lead roles.

It is very humorous... I like Grant in "My Favorite Wife" and "The Philedelphia Story" two more comedies that I like him in...

quite agree with u all- awful truth was brilliant! rather enjoyed grants performance in "my favourite wife' as well as 'arsenic and old lace"- but i daresay some would say arsenic and old lace is a bit too screwball. i adored it tho. quite liked 'blandings" as well.

cheers.

I'm not a fan of "Arsenic and Old Lace", but I do love "Walk Don't Run". :)

I also saw "Topper" a few years ago. I liked it, but I barely remember it now.

The Grass is Greener is EXCELLENT, especially with his costars, Deborah Kerr, Jean Simmons and Robert Mitchum.....a MUST SEE for CG fans! (another plus for this film is that there are no children)

You hate most comedies? Why? Do you mean new ones, classic, or both? No criticism intended, just curiosity.
