Is the DVD okay?
I want to buy this, but I wonder if I should wait for an improved edition. I hate double dipping, and there seems to be a trend with early DVD releases of classics being redone.

sharewell, if an anniversary edition is planned anytime soon, it wouldnt be till 2008. I'd just get it know, regardless of the dvd's lack of extras :(

The DVD looks good, though it has no extras. Warners has said they have no plans to revisit any Bogie DVDs made from restored prints (which includes all their Bogie/Bacall titles, They Drive By Night, High Sierra, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and Casablanca; there is a new edition of The Maltese Falcon coming though). They did, however, just put out a boxset of the Bogie/Bacall films, with the crappy old cardboard cases replaced by plastic ones. You can get all four for under $30.

I got the DVD for 5.99 back when I still got movies at Wal-Mart. I'm glad I did, as I live in Florida and this is a good one to watch when the weather gets bad out.
shareI was lucky enough to get both KEY LARGO and MALTESE FALCON one day out of the 2-for-11 bin at Wal-Mart. I wouldn't mind having deluxe editions of them with lots of extras, like the CASABLANCA set, but for now it's enough just to have these great classics on DVD.
shareI bought the bogart classic with "maltese falcon/the big sleep" and the becall classic with "key largo/to have and have not" for 8.99 each.
Sweet deal and the transfers are excellent.

Bought a Bogart Essential Collection that was bought out this year and my version is excellent, all the DVDs in it are of a great quality and a DVD player via HDMI is all you need to do the trick. Its a lot better then what was shown on FTA TV here about 20 mins ago!
