Hurricane ignorance in KL?

Granted, it wasn't like nowadays with all the cable tv weather coverage, but it seems to me that Rocco has been in exile from the USA in Cuba for what may be years. It seems hard to believe that someone living in Cuba wouldn't know anything about hurricanes, which many times hit Cuba before or instead of hitting the Florida Keys. Was there some weird meteorological anomaly in the 1940s steering hurricanes away from Cuba that I am not aware of?

It's one of my only quibbles with what I consider to be a great film - a film I might actually prefer over The Big Sleep.

If you're watching 'Fullscreen' DVDs, you aren't getting the whole picture.

When did they ever say that Rocco had spent the entire period of his deportation in Cuba?

He would have been deported initially back to his native country, which would be Italy.

I don't recall anything that specified that Rocco had spent more than a few weeks or a couple months in Cuba as a stopping point on his way back to the US.

Rocco just didn't want anyone telling him what to do about anything. He was the type of jerk that had to be the big man who had power over everyone, even if it meant losing a very expensive boat and his way off the keys.

More importantly and incorrectly the cop says it islate for a storm, they usually hit in early summer. Hurricane season is late summer through mid fall- late august to early November.
