Isn't it a restaurant now? They claim that's where the movie was filmed anyway.
About 10yrs ago, I had some great fried conch there.

Just down the road at the Holiday Inn, they have the boat used in The African Queen. Read the claim on the plaque, doubted it, till a couple of yrs ago, I saw it on the History Channel's 'Lost & Found'.

The name of the place was called Rock Harbor Lodge. I do believe it burned down though. How I know this is that my grandfather owned it and my dad lived there and met the cast when he was little. Not sure if it is a restaurant now but I am trying to find some info on it all too since it means alot to me. so if you have any other info I would love to know where you found it....Dawn

The place was called the Caribbean Club (or Club Caribbean). It's about a half mile from the Marriott. The original burned down years ago and a bar/club was built on the same site. Not much there to evoke the spirit of the film, but there is a "shrine" to the movie in one corner. I was there about 10 yrs ago and I still have the T shirt. It's fight across the road from a little restaurant that serves GREAT conch fritters and key lime pie!

It was filmed at Warners, not on location:

"Huston's last film, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, had been filmed on location and had gone over budget, so Jack Warner insisted that Key Largo be filmed on the studio sound stage. Cinematographer Karl Freund compensated by using his camera expressively to negate the impression of staginess as much as possible...."

Just watched Key Largo and paid attention for location shots. The opening sequence of the highway and the last shot are the only location shots. All the shots of the hotel are on a stage and for the storm wide angle exteriors are done in miniature.

The boat and boat dock shots are done in a huge pool with a large painted backdrop for the deep background. For a couple of boat shots it does look like the boat is moving but those shots don't last very long. In some of the others it looks like the boat is in a fixed position and the prop is being run to move the water from the stern giving the illusion the boat is moving.

So to answer the OP's question the name was "Hotel Largo" and it was located on the sound stage(s) at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, CA.

Lets put it this way, Bogart, Robinson, and Becall were never filmed at Key Largo. Just the island aerial shot and bridge scene.
