Johnny Rocco (Edward G. Robinson) - evil bastard

I think Edward G. Robinson really stole the show here. His convincing portrayal of Johnny Rocco was such a stark portrait of evil, that I'm hard pressed to recall a more chillingly evil person in movie history.

Don't disparage me by putting me and Rocco in the same vain!

Best "evil scene" was Robinson slapping Bogart several quick times in succession as punishment for giving Gaye the drink she craved.

What a display of total arrogance!

Robinson was a great character actor.

Robinson did such a good job in this movie. That scene where he makes Claire Trevor sing for a drink and then he won't give it to her always makes me feel sick. It's so incredibly cruel-she's completely lost her voice and her poise and everything that made her a performer, but she humiliates herself anyway and all she gets for it is that he tells her she wasn't any good.

Laughing to Thomas Gomez about the possibility of Gaye giving up his buddy from the old days, Ziggy.
