film locations
Does anybody know where the market scenes were shot? Are they studio or on location?

shareAlthough set in the East End much of the film was shot in Chalk Farm, notably Hartland Street and Harmood Street. The church you can see beyond the railway bridge has, I believe been used in the EAST ENDERS tv soap. The house where Jack Hawkins goes to question somebody (no demolished) is almost certainly one where my great grandfather lived. The market scenes, however, were filmed in Petticoat Lane E1.
So many films, so little time
The metal sided double bridge that Tommy Swann cycles over is, I believe, in the Kensal Rise area but I may be wrong.
How clever of you to spot Harmood Street - I remember it well - as a student I used to visit a secondhand bookshop there to buy university textbooks cheaply.
It's Clarence Way for the main street shown as the location where the family live & it's pretty much identical to how it was in the film.
Hawley Road is used for a sequence too.
The metal bridge seems to have gone.
