Parodied in Go-Go Gophers?

Does anyone remember the cartoon Go-Go Gophers from the Underdog show in the 1960's? Two Native American Indians bedevil a martinet cavalry with a moustache and a captain who is forever drawling "Begging the colonel's pardon . . . " in a voice reminiscent of John Wayne. When I saw Fort Apache as an adult, it occurred to me that it was the inspiration for the cartoon. Thoughts or comments?

Yep. That it was!!

I believe the historical reference is George A. Custer, not this movie.

Many people believe that Colonel Thursday's character was also based on Custer.

The character of the adjudant to the commanding officer is drawn to resemble John Wayne, and sounds just like John Wayne. The inference of the skits are clearly the movie "Fort Apache," and not directly related to George Custer.

Yes, even John Ford himself said more than once that Thursday was a "type" of Custer.
