Come ON!
You can't seriously believe that Fort Apche and Rio Grande are "the same, more or less," can you????
They aren't. Besides being in a Cavalry setting, and Wayne having essentially the same name (different spelling), they're completely different.
Fort Apache is a VERY thinly veiled send-up of George Custer's demise at the Little Big Horn, with Henry Fonda playing Custer - Wayne as his adjudant.
Rio Grande, on the other hand, is about a man seeing his 18 year old son for the first tme in nearly 15 years, and reuniting with the boy's mother in the end. In this setting HE is the company commander.
I almost left out one thing...Both movies shared the same Indian nemisis...the Apaches.
HOW can you make a statement like you made, and NOT expect people to call you on it!!
Courage is being scared to death - but saddling up anyway. John Wayne
I bet it took you hours to think of all that.GOOD Movie but watch them back to back it felt like i was watching the same movie but You Mr Smartarse. take it out of context obviusly you knew what i meant just wanted to be Mr Smartarse.

How could ANYONE get that you were being sarcastic from your post?
I responded as soon as I saw it. I don't need to take a long time responding about movies I know like the back of my hand.
I also don't surf the message boards awaiting someone's next GEM of a comment in response to mine.
Maybe you shouldn't have watched them back to back. Maybe you should have watched "A Clockwork Orange" in between them!
See, you're not the only one who can be Mr. Smartarse!
Seriously, I didn't see any sarcasm in you post, I thought you really felt they were alike. THAT is why I sent my post.

Christ almighty. You weren't exactly the kid who brought home many impressive report cards, huh?
shareYep, they're even spelled the same.
That's the trouble with John Ford, he really got into a rut.
