Lt. Col. Thursday Was A Pr**k

Henry Fonda played the perfect pr**k officer taking over a command. The only decent thing Lt. Col. Thursday did was to borrow John Wayne's sabre to go die with the men he arrogantly led to disaster. Most officers like that I knew ended up with flag rank. It only shows that whether the water is salt or fresh, poop rises.

As far as I know, this is probably Henry Fonda's only hateful role in his career, rigorous, aggressive, arrogant and disgraceful. He died as a soldier, but commanded as a maniac.

Frank in "Once Upon a Time in the West" makes Owen Thursday look like a saint. In "Fort Apache", Fonda portrayed a misguided martinet and most unlikable character very well.

Yeah, Wayne did that also in YELLOW RIBBON, and praises the Native American way of life in HONDO. Makes you wonder, doesn't it.

Oh, and speaking of racist draft-dodgers, hello there jerkbirdbrain. You are not welcomed back. How long will you be the creature who walks amongst us this time? Las Vegas oddsmakers are betting on within the week before IMDb administrators get fed up with the complaints about you --- again.

He played outright villains in Firecreek and especially Once Upon a Time in the West. Plus his characters in The Ox-Bow Incident and Warlock aren't exactly paragons of virtue.

On that note: In his book, "Don't Tell Dad", Peter Fonda mentions that people used to ask him when he (and his sister)were younger, about what Henry Fonda Was like as a father. His reply was always the same. "If you want to know what Henry Fonda was really like, watch Fort Apache!"

I really hated Henry Fonda in this movie...what a jackass! Ford didn't sugarcoat his character at all.
