Always Shoot the Bugler First!

I have to admit that that scene cracks me up every single time I watch the film. The cavalry is charging, the bugler is bugling, and the first shot by the Apache takes out the bugler.

It's as if the Apache were saying, "Aw, shut up already!"

Your comment reminds me of how Gunga Din's bugle call SHOULD have been.

Since there seem to be the regimental headquarters and at least four companies present at the battle, there would have been positions for eight buglers (or trumpeters) and a chief bugler (or trumpeter).

Thus when the bugler at Thursday's side blew the charge, they could have shown several other buglers repeating the call, or at least dubbed in the sounds of other buglers repeating the call down the line of the column.
