You get a gritty western , with hard men leading a hard journey. Then it ends with all that silly buddy buddy , name calling nonsense.
While I liked this movie, one of John Ford's greatest weaknesses was enforcing comedy or funny moments. The name calling we saw at the end, or the stereotypical drunk, so abundant in many of Ford's pictures (which thankfully, this movie did not have until the very end at the cantana).
There are funny bits in this film, like putting the grease on the baby, but those moments came off much more natural and never seemed forced, like "the making fun of the names" we witnessed at the end of the movie.
