good film

Just watched on TCM the other night at two in them morning, what a bloody good film couldnt believe I had overlooked it before now. Bogart is excellent. I would highly recommend it. Was scanning the net to see if it was out on DVD but couldnt find it. Hope it arrives soon.

I just watched it recently..

Bogart was amazing, he was kinda creepy in it too, his face in shadows half the time, kinda eerie! Stanwyck plays the deceived wife to a T!

"I promise you, before I die I'll surely come to your doorstep"

I agree, he looked seriously psycho in this film. I was watching alone and got a little freaked out.

Spoilers ahead for this and another movie.

I especially liked at the end when he offered a glass of milk to the policemen and then put his hand to his head and shrugged, lol. One really creepy look was when he dropped the glass of milk on the floor--bloody crazed. Yeesh.

The film kind of reminded me of that movie with Cary Grant where he was suspected of wanting to kill his wife--Suspicion? SPOILER: I wish that had ended with him being bad, liks this one. That would have been more exciting. I wish this one were kind of more exciting at the end also. Why didn't he kill her? He had time. I think it's just how old movies are--they end so quickly.

I just saw it on TC, for the first time.

VERY good film.

Excellent cast.

A very good little film. Overlooked and under-rated.

Bogie playing a villain and not the hero. Very unusual.

And that's why it's a watchable film. :-)

8/10

8/10 here too!

Also just watched it on TCM and did QUITE enjoy it! All were very good, actors/writers/director--aces all the way around!

I agree!

The film also has some funny dialog. Referring to the "Christine" (Anita Sharp-Bolster) character.

I enjoyed the nod to "Casablanca" when Bogart remarked that this will be the beginning of a good hatred :).

One of my 5 favorite Bogart movies ever. I can also recommend "Conflict" (also with Alexis Smith), "Dark Passage" (Lauren Bacall and Bogie in their best film together), "High Sierra" and "Desperate Hours".

I never really cared much for "The Big Sleep" or "The Maltese Falcon", they are o.k., but highly over-rated IMHO. But those other five are excellent thrillers.
