Great Climax?

The current review that is displayed recons the film to have a great climax, well I liked the film gave it 5/7 which is a high score from me.... but... you knew it was coming, I recon the ending is plain daft! It would not be appropriate to disclose details, but those who have seen it will have an opinion.

PS I saw the uncut version on BBC (UK) but I think the ending is complete in the shorter version.

I didn't read the review but I can agree with it being a great climax. There is a bit of foretelling of what was about to happen but I only saw it in retrospect. The unexpected nature of the ending, for me, made the entire movie more enjoyable than if the ending had taken either of the expected paths. If not for that extra bit (his actions), it could have turned out to be any other movie with an ironic end. Then again, I think I interpreted the meaning of his action differently than most people probably did.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Given Larry's apparent attraction to dames, if he made it out of the window, he'd probably have his fall broken by a female pedestrian.

If that were to happen the title would still work; he'd tell his story and no one would believe him.

LOL, another woman would have died because of him!

What was he being tried for? Verna died in a car accident and didn't Greta jump or fall off the cliff? Seems both women died either by accident (Verna) or suicide/accident (Greta).

reply

I agree. The ending was so far fetched and preposterous it was beyond belief. What had been a reasonable if melodramatic B picture was totally ruined by the last five minutes.

reply

Quick, someone is going to kill themselves by jumping out a window. Shoot to kill!!! That will stop them from jumping to their death.

The ending is impossibly STUPID! Robert Young's character "has" to get shot right before the credits. All so the Production Code can be satisfied because someone who is "evil" "has" to pay. :-P

I did not see that coming. I am assuming he died. I was typing on my tablet, how did he break away to get to the window. The guy was greedy and stupid. All he had to do was alert someone that his wife died. Did he push the horse off the cliff? I did he really did love Verda, but he might have ended up breaking her heart as well.
