Who invited Van Heflin to the wedding? (spoiler)
Both Joan Crawford and Raymond Massey say they didn't invited Heflin to their wedding. So who did? Or was he that arrogant to just show up?

shareI thought he was invited by Carol Graham , Dean's ( Raymond Massey ) daughter.
shareI think Louise did invite him. Look at the double-take she gives her husband after she denies inviting him. I'm sure that she's lying, wanting David to see her again so that she can have that later scene with him. (Go away, come back, go away, come back...)
shareGreat question. I highly doubt Louise invited him because she looked mortified when he showed up. I was surprised she actually married Dean Graham.
Just as a hunch: Could it have been Dean's daughter, Carol? Either that, or he wanted to play mind games with Louise.
I think he just heard about the wedding from the grapevine, i.e., mutual acquaintances, and showed up on his own. I don't find his presence mysterious or puzzling. Looked like there were over 100 people milling about the Graham home... one more person would be no big deal.
shareVery gauche and quite ballsy at the time.
shareCarol certainly didn't invite David to the wedding party; they bumped into each other, accidentally, while she had found an isolated spot to have "a good cry," only to recognize him moments later after she had finally looked at him. David had had a business association with Dean for some years and had occasionally seen Dean's children when they were still youngsters, which explains how Carol remembered him while he, at first, was unable to recognize her.
And, yeah, I think David crashed the party, probably because he's something of a devil-may-care, free spirited type (like most people who crash parties) and it seems a pretty good way to get liqored up at someone elses's (Dean's) expense.
Whatever you do, DO NOT read this sig--ACKKK!!! TOO LATE!!!
I agree. Good post.

Although they had a 'business association', I got the impression that David was employed by Dean, not someone part of Dean's social circle.
