Wedding suit
What color was that supposed to be? It looked like it was black, of course, but either way it seemed a really dark color. And this was her first marriage, although her husband's second.

Neither of my Grandmas wore 'wedding gowns'; in the 30s it wasn't the fashion, at least among the middle class. This was an 'older couple' and his second wedding, so it's not that surprising that she wore a suit. Often the suit was one that would be worn at other times, so the season may have dictated the colour... this was a time where etiquette quite dominated (public) behavior.

Sorry, but you're wrong. My parents were married in the 30s, and wedding gown were definitely in fashion. WHITE wedding gowns, which signified virginity.
My aunt (my mother's younger sister) got married in a brown suit. Why? Because she was KNOCKED UP, and that was a disgrace, back then.
Sorry, but apparently your grandmas had buns in the oven at the time of their marriage. I've never heard of suits being "the fashion" in the 30s. Cripes. share
