By the end, Jeff was still considered a double murderer, right? Or was there any evidence left for the police to suspect otherwise?

Nope, his reputation was tarnished forever and even the only person who really cared for him believed he died on the run trying to escape with another woman. Talk about a downer.

Those that were living did not want his name cleared. Ann had to move on. Her cop friend prolly knew that Jeff called the cops but had no interest in making that known. The kid had his own reasons to leave the case alone. He actually killed Stefano to protect Jeff and he wanted Ann to move on.
