This movie's WAY too long.

Sorry, but it does drag a bit here and there.

I just got through watching it, tonight, on TCM; had never seen it before. Thought it was excellent in every respect, never felt it was too long or dragging.

You've done some bad things, sweetie.

That's what makes a horse race.

No matter what the film, or the length of it, you can count on some poster suffering from ADD to complain it is too long.

On the ohter hand I think 20 second commercials on tv can be too long.

So, Doctor, what med school did you get your degree from?

So, no one has ever criticized a film for being too long without it being pathological.
Interesting.

What did your mother do you YOU?

Even critics who love this film say that the SF scenes are too complicated. Guess that makes it seem long. I say enjoy it. The SF scenes are fascinating and the cinematography is the best.

The popularity and high rating of this film is bit of a mystery for me.
Yeah, it drags at times, it is quite incomprehensible in some parts. I don't feel any chemistry between Mitchum and his women. The acting leaves something to be desired. The plot is little more than mediocre melodrama. The photography is very good but not truly striking.

When Douglas or Fleming are on screen it gets better but there's not enough of them in this movie.

I know this picture is a icon among noir fans. Yet I have to agree with Trax-3.

As noir classics go, The Strange Love Of Martha Ivers (1946) is better in every way, but is seldom on anyone's favorites list.

I second, (or is it third) this. This is not nearly the best noir film I've seen. It is over long and gets unnecessarily confusing during the second half.

Maybe it seems "long" to some, because it's almost as though it's two movies edited together, because of the duality of Jeff's life, as exemplified by the women in his life. The outdoors/daytime/Ann and indoors/nighttime/Kathy; the life Jeff wants to live and the life he's trying to escape.

It could never be long enough for me.

Oh, The Strange Love of Martha Ivers is definitely on my list of faves!

The movie is perfectly comprehensible. Pay attention.

The movie is under 100 minutes. How short do you want it to be?

The weird thing is it was only 95 minutes, but the story really did seem to drag towards the end. But I found the excellent ending made up for it.
