An incredible fing movie....sleazy but extremely intelligent, with obscure references to the Kabbala, tarot cards ect, with freaks, evil psychiatrists, mentalists, snakes and geeking. The author later committed suicide, and with this movie, we can see why.

It was run on AMC. Look for it. Very good, absorbing, unique movie. I give it a 9 out of 10.

netflix and blockbuster will rent it ti you, on the dvd 2 film critics provide commentary on one of the audio tracks, its worth renting.
shareI just saw the film for the first time after hearing about it for years. A very interesting work from Goulding - it's probably better than his previous best Dark Victory.
It's not my favorite film-noir by a longshot but certainly a very good one. I'm going to have to watch it again to get a better feel for it.
Tyrone Power is superb - giving his finest performance I've ever seen him in. I would have liked to see more of his decline, especially with the hobos, as I think that adds a lot to the film.
My vote is 8/10,
