There are two separate versions of this film with the same actors

The scenes vary slightly and the run time is different. I'm very surprised to see that this has not been pointed out much if at all.

Not the same actors, and the other version (other than the unfortunate 1990s train wreck film) was a 1955 version that was made for TV as an episode in the anthology television series The 20th Century Fox Hour which ran a few years in the 1950s.

Name brand cast though.

There was the original with Natalie Wood (1946), then the 1955 TV version, then a 1973 version with Sebastian Cabot (Mr. French), and the 1994 one with Richard Attenborough. As usual the original is the best.
