This was part of Lincoln Pittridge's sermon towards the end of the movie, which helps explain the movie's title. He was quoting from Scripture, Proverbs 5:3. In various versions of the Bible, "strange woman" is written as "adulteress," "adulterous woman," "forbidden woman," "harlot," etc. I guess "strange woman" is the least lurid of the bunch. Anyway, that's where the title of the movie came from.

This movie was based on the best seller "The Strange Woman", by Ben Ames Williams, who also wrote "Leave Her To Heaven" starring Gene Tierney, another 'wicked' woman, that he seemed to love to write about. The movie was condensed according to the years that Jenny Hager lived....She died of old age. Code at the time had to be sure she got her just desserts at the end. Hedy made this movie, cause she was tired of making MGM movies that seemed to want to glorify her beauty, more than her acting talents. its a miracle they made her make "H. M. Pulham, esq.". Everyone at that time were making comments on how could they miscast her in that movie.
