shareIndeed! I'm watching it now. I will never understand why anyone thought she was attractive! Decent actor but Glenn Ford overshadows her big time!
shareI thought she was beautiful. Like a Picasso some feel his work is ugly, others find it exceptional.......... Same as Barbara Strisand, she is either ugly and or beautiful. Its all in the beholder. In Now Voyager she is stunning, well as far as I am concerned.
sharePerfect analogy, I couldn't agree with you more. Beauty truly IS in the eye of the beholder.
shareI always thought Bette Davis was *cute* NOT beautiful. She always reminded me of a baby chickadee, in a cute way. I saw this movie this morning and I missed the first 30 minutes of it but it was a good campy movie.
shareSome people look terrific when photographed from certain angles and with specific lighting. Bette Davis definitely has her good and bad angles. Now someone like Kim Basinger looks good from EVERY angle ... but we don't watch Bette for her beauty, do we?
shareActually, I don't think Bette ever appeared more beautiful on screen than she did in A Stolen Life. Her stardom was at its peak (right before it started slipping) and she was definitely at the peak of her beauty and grace.
Notice the hairstyle she wears throughout the film. She would wear this same hairstyle in later years, but never did it become her more than in this film. This film, I think, is responsible for the trademark Bette look. When people think of Bette Davis, I think they see Kate.
I love her in this and in Now Voyager. I've become a fan of hers lately. I just watched A Stolen Life today on TCM. They're having a Glenn Ford tribute today.
