I watched this movie last night and I ended up dissapointed. The script seemed interesting,I was intrigued with the storyline, but the movie was very poor, boring and too short. The storyline seemed to have been written by a teen who wants to become in a director and shows the first project...It has not turn of screws, there is no anything shocking or surprsing,it is a story totally plain and dull.I expected much more..
I disagree. This was the very first movie of Vincent's I had seen when I discovered him a few months ago and I was completely riveted. Perhaps it was because of Price himself being young, handsome and so deliciously sympathetically evil, or perhaps it was the thrill of seeing him kiss somebody (which I had never seen before) but regardless of what the real reason was, I thoroughly enjoyed Shock and it's one of my personal favorites. I guess the phrase "To each his own" is the best to describe this film since some will enjoy it as in my case, and some will not, as in yours. :)
I just saw this movie again after many many years. The first time it was the late night "thriller" on TV. Even then it was amazing how young Vincent Price was and how more sympathetic his character was. Good quick film noir.
the shock is what he does to the woman to prevent her from identifying him,, sure it didn't have a lot of the blood and gore,, but I felt Vincent Price did a great job with this one. are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite
I'm inclined to agree somewhat with Ada_Inma. I wouldn't say I was bored but I think I was a little disappointed. The plot just isn't that clever, and though I think the actors all did a fine job, I can't say I found the movie riveting, just enjoyable enough to stick with it.
I found the murder scene unsatisfying. It seems just too convenient that Dr. Cross was arguing loudly with his wife with the outer doors wide open, that Mrs. Stewart was able to see and hear everything so clearly and for so long without being noticed by Dr. Cross, and that the occupant of the adjacent room on the other side didn't see or hear the same incident, and maybe a few other strokes of luck I can't think of right now.
Also, the thing about psychiatric patients thinking that their doctor is out to murder them, which is believable, doesn't really square with Mrs. Stewart's ACCUSATION (not suspicion) that she had actually SEEN Dr. Cross murder SOMEONE ELSE (not herself). I'm no psychiatrist but these seem to me to be two entirely different mental patterns and even if Dr. Cross was prepared to conflate the two for his own nefarious purposes, you'd expect his assistant (Dr. Stevens) to have given Mrs. Stewart's accusation at least a second thought instead of summarily dismissing it.
I think the plotline was pretty lame, and found myself thinking some of the situations very unlikely, especially how incoherent the patient was, then quite alert. In and out to support the far fetched story. I watched this on YouTube because Price was young and just past doing 'Laura', and a few years from his horror career. Overall, I doubt this would have normally been shown on the top bill in a theater back in the day. Very much a B picture, or perhaps drive-in only.
