What is with the ladder?

What was big deal about the ladder? Couldn't Cora just walk down the stairs?

reply

Didn´t get that part, either. Unfortunately, no one appears to be willing to explain that though.

I assumed that they needed for him to be found in a locked bathroom, as the presumed victim of a slip and fall during his bath.

She was going to knock him over the head, and then crawl out of the window, after which they would remove the ladder then pretend to discover his death when the tub overflowed into the room below.

So? She could've still hit him, then turned around and walked out the
bathroom door, locked behind her. Bathroom doors obviously lock from
the inside. I also don't understand why Frank pretends to be drunk in
front of the DA and Cora - sober as a judge - takes the wheel. How could
it be "a regular drunk automible accident" if Cara was sober and driving??

Not necessarily. I've had both types of doors. The push-button type where you could push the lock before closing the door yourself from the outside, and the turn type, where you could not lock yourself out because the bolt (or whatever it's called) would engage before you had shut the door.

It isn't my murder scheme, so I am not claiming that it's perfect. I am just saying that that is my understanding of their rationale on the ladder.

reply

Yes, but if the bath was overflowing and Nick wasn't responding then the natural response would've been to force the door, not call the police or ambulance. So all they needed to do was make sure the door was locked (presumably from the inside) when they burst the door down. Cora could've done that, leaving Frank outside to put the boot in. The ladder was simply superfluous.

reply

You try busting down an internal door and see how far you get.

Toilet door lock? Easy! Certainly easier than tipping a car off a precipice or beating the crap out of a couple of hoods.
