Watching the movie right now and they mention the town Brentwood. Is this supposed to be Brentwood, NY on Long Island??

Doubtful, as the story opens in New Jersey.

The town is Berentwood, NJ, a fictitious place although there is a Brantwood located relatively close to two of the towns, Newark and Hackensack, mentioned in the screenplay.
share"Brentwood" was made up by Mark Hellinger who didn't want to go through the permission process or deal with lawyers if he used the name of an actual New Jersey town.
The actual town name used by Hemingway is Summit, New Jersey (coincidentally where I grew up) and the diner in question is still there!

FYI... there is a scene in the movie filmed at Thompson's Station in Brentwood, NY.
