What was the deal with the brooch?
I didn't get that part. Did the cop know the brooch was stolen? Why did he get angry with the friend at his table before walking over to Kitty?

Yes, the script is very spare and assumes we figure things out, but he was investigating jewel thefts and I believe he knew it was stolen.
