The'Paul Jones' sequence......!!!!!

Anybody ever notice how long the 10"78rpm record Megs Jenkins puts on the gramophone for the 'Paul Jones'plays for? Six and a half minutes!!! Then, when Judy Campbell pulls the arm across to stop the dance the arm is exactly halfway across the record.Given that the length of time a 10" 78 played for was three and a half minutes thats pretty good going!!Yeah I know!! I ought to get out more!!!!!!

The music is good. I think it was great that the composer used the Paul Jones theme as the main theme for all the music. He/she just changes it up. But more impressive even than the music is the camera work/direction during the scene. When Eden and Bates are dancing and talking they always manage to turn so that the speaker gets to say most of their line facing the camera. Considering that they are actually dancing to the music, I really like how this was handled.

Plus Leo Genn is obviously a pretty smooth dancer!

Is the Paul Jones still played in UK? I've seen the German equivalent called the Marsch-Walzer and it's a pretty effective ice breaker at a party.

I thought that it was clever of Nurse Woods to play that record. She had overheard the engaged couple arguing about who goes with whom to a casual dance like this one. Later, we see her playing a record in which all the doctors and nurses are "shuffled around" in order to wind up dancing with someone. Very clever.
