Hattie Jacques?!
Hattie is listed as "uncredited" in Green For Danger, here on IMDB. I've just seen the film but didn't spot her. I thought I was trained to spot all Carry On actors. Anyone worked out where she is? The party scene, maybe?

I'm not sure about that, Ccmcrl. As the voice was supposed to sound like Megs Jenkins, it would have been a strange choice to use someone else's voice rather than Megs' own rather distinctive voice.
shareI've always wondered what part Hattie played in the film. I read somewhere that she was the voice of the radio announcer, but having recently watched the film I have to agree with you, it does sound more like Megs Jenkins.
Perhaps she appeared in the hospital party scene as a crowd player?
That's more likely - especially as it would have been very early in her career.
shareIt's fairly clear that the radio voice was that of Megs Jenkins, since later in the film it's revealed that it's the voice of the twin sister of Megs Jenkins' character.
shareIf you want to see Hattie in this movie you have to watch very carefuly at the beginning where she can just be spotted in the waiting room in the background sitting on a setee. The camera must hae been at least 25 feet away from her, if you blink you will miss her.
shareWow. Thanks Frank! Will check it out!

She was the German radio announcer, if you watch carry on matron, the link there is that her and charles hawtrey are watching it :-)
shareHattie asolutely definitely WAS NOT the German radio announcer. That was Megs Jenkins. When Inspector Cockerill plays the recording the cast assume it was Meg's character and we are told it was her twin sister. The sound quality on the Criterion Collection DVD is far from perfect but it's clear enough to identify MEGS not HATTIE on the radio.
The only two speaking parts that could possibly have been Hattie are 1. a nurse at reception who speaks one line to Inspector Cockerill and (my bet if Hattie actually was in the film which I doubt) 2. the (unseen) barmaid at the party who says there are only small gins available.
Bear in mind that Hattie Jacques started her broadcasting career as a "voice artiste", and would have been employed precisely for her ability to sound like some else.

True, bur why on earth would they have someone imitating Megs Jenkins voice precisely, instead of just having Megs Jenkins do the radio voice as well as her own part? In my opinion, there is no doubt that the radio voice is Megs Jenkins, not Hattie Jacques.
I wonder if she could be in the group that the hospital director is boring to death, near the beginning of the film? Someone suggested she was in the waiting room scene, but watching it again, if she was, she wasn't recognisable to me; but maybe my eyes aren't up to the task!
Perhaps IMDB has just made a mistake!
For once the British Film Institute's Screenonline website gives no help either. They list Hattie as being in the cast, but not what role she plays.

It was me who said she may be in the waiting room. Here's a link for you to try' I'm not saying it is her but the woman in the background is the only person in this film that looks anything like Hattie.

Thanks for the link. I also looked at my copy of the film when you suggested this, and I agree this is one of the few scenes where she could possibly appear. Someone else suggested she might be the heard-but-not-seen barmaid, and, to me, this seems a bit more likely than the woman in the background. This is partly because, as someone said, she started off as a voice artist, so could be a 'voice off', and partly because in Nicholas Nickleby the following year and Oliver Twist the year after, Hattie's well known plump figure is in evidence, and the woman in the waiting room looks quite slim (although, admittedly, there's only a brief view of her). Of course, this doesn't mean that Hattie might not have put on some weight by the next year...
I have seen this film more than a dozen times on my DVD and it is clearly sounds likeJenkins voice on the recording and heard when the postman is in the bunker. Yet you would expect to see her credited as both in the cast listing. Plus they list Jacques as the other voice. Seems odd to say the least. I will check it out more closely and amend this post afterward.
shareWhy use another performer to replicate Ms. Jenkins' voice, when she was part of the project? This is just about the silliest supposition I've ever seen on IMDB. The voice on the radio is nobody bet Megs Jenkins.
shareYep. Just watched it again. It's so flippin' obviously Megs Jenkins' voice that it is stupid to even question it. I saw no sign of Hattie Jacques whatsoever so my guess is her appearance is just a rumour that unfortunately got spread around, upon which someone decided, not being able to spot her, that she was the voice of the radio announcer and spread that around too.
I don't think there's anything extraordinary about me except this passion for the truth.
