Funny story

When Gilda opened in Spain in the forties movies were censored by the church and scenes considered inappropriate or too revealing would be cut out (even long kisses!).
So of course when people saw Gilda they were convinced that in the American version, after singing "Put the blame on Mame" she carried on with the strip-tease and got completely naked... Apparently there were also rumours that after the strip-tease Glenn Ford threw her in a bed with red satin sheets... (funny this, as the film is in black and white!). In the end people always ended up imagining stuff a lot worse than what the censors were trying to avoid!

Got a nice chuckle out of that story about one of my favorite films, Joaquin. Thanks for sharing that! (:-D

There's more though: I recall a Spanish friend saying that in the 40ies,when Gilda opened in Spain, there would be a local Catholic priest outside the movie house writing down the names of the people going to see the movie. It was considered an "immoral" movie. And another weird bit of trivia: in the Spanish dubbed version Johnny and Gilda are...brother and sister. At least this is what this friend said.I watched the dvd in spanish and this doesn't seem to be the case.Unless there was a different version in the 40ies.If that was the case however I don't know how the plot would make any sense.

Brother and sister! Oh my god, that would have made the movie even more "immoral", hahaha.

It was interesting how conservative and sexually repressed Spain became after Franco took over in 1939. It kind of reminds me of the direction that the USA is going.
