'Johnny' tally!
Has anyone considered counting the number of times Hayworth's Gilda says "Johnny"? It's gotta be up there. She seems to address him by his name with every sentence!
Love this film, by the way...

Unbelievable. Ballin never says any line that does not end with Johnny. Any ideas, Johnny, did it bother you, Johnny, I will tell you something, Johnny, Come here, Johnny, Remember this, Johnny, Watch her, Johnny, You're very suspicious, Johnny, Very good, Johnny, You're the only one who knows the combination, Johnny, Do you know what a cartel is, Johny, Let's have a drink, Johnny, Women are funny little creatures, Johnny, I'm mad about her, Johnny, be careful, Johnny,...
Just in case we didn't know who he was talking to.
Was this a sign of his affections?
I found a script and counted -
The name Ballin was spoken 24 times, Gilda - 29 times, Johnny 45 times.
And, oh yeah, I noticed too. Johnny, Johnny, Johnny. Although nothing could possibly surpass the number of times Mitchum addressed Deborah Kerr as ma'am in 'Heaven Knows Mr Allison', could it?
Hi, Bob.
45 times! It had to be purposeful, but so annoying.
shareYou're right 'nutritionist' it was so excessive that it became incredibly annoying and ultimately downright silly. It actually succeeded in fairly ruining the appeal of Hayworth's character and the movie itself, for me.... Another example was Bogart's famous line, in Casablanca, "Here's looking at you kid," which he uttered on several occasions, during the course of the film, with a different inflection on the words -looking- and -you- each time. Despite that senselessness the story was still interesting, although the ending was rather disappointing. I much preferred old Humphrey in "The Treasure of Sierra Madre," "In a Lonely Place" and "The African Queen."
shareJohnny Farrel.
To us, Johnny.
Johnny, is that you?
Gilda, this is Johnny Farrel. Johnny, this is Gilda.
I've heard a lot about you, Johnny Farrel.
Johnny is such a hard name to remember, and so easy to forget.
Johnny... there.
I'll see Johnny downstairs.
You were rude to him. - To whom? - Johnny.
Johnny, Mr. Mundson says to tell you that they're here.
Johnny, I've been looking for you.
What's the matter, Johnny?
That's an interesting question. Johnny?
One wonders what woman brought Johnny to this pretty pass.
Let's. Shall we, Johnny?
I may have misjudged your Johnny.
Disaster to the wench who did wrong by our Johnny.
You knew him before. - Who? - Johnny. - Johnny Farrel?
If you're worried about Johnny Farrel, don't be. I hate him.
Johnny Farrel, he runs the joint.
Over here, Johnny.
I'm mad about her, Johnny.
Johnny...- I am... What? - Afraid.
Would it interest you to know how much I hate you, Johnny?
Let Gilda talk, Johnny.
Johnny doesn't think it would be a tragedy if you lost me.
Johnny is a terrific swimmer. He out-distanced me beautifully.
But some day there will be a return match, and then, look out, Johnny.
Johnny, you'll have to teach me how.
And Johnny, you come now. Immediately.
Johnny will take you to the party.
Have you warned Johnny, so he can also arm himself?
Push my hat back, Johnny.
Johnny, she left with...
Goodnight, Johnny.
Are we, Johnny? Are we?
I hate you too, Johnny.
Johnny, that isn't even decent.
You're cock-eyed, Johnny.
Johnny, please let me go.
I hate to do this, but Johnny...
Johnny, let's go home.
Hi, Bob.
