How many cartons of cigarettes...

...were needed to make this film? Lots of smoking by everyone in the cast. Typical of the period and a great movie. Just an observation.

I remember a scene where Gilda asks a waiter for a light. I doubt Rita Hayworth ever got a cigarette to her lips without half a dozen men queuing up to light it for her.

What most people don't know, is that the tobacco companies,
PAID the studios, to have the stars smoke in the movies. It was written into the script. Just like De Beers, got Hollywood to glamorize diamonds, as the ultimate gift. What the stars did, we did.

Enjoyed "This Is It" and for us RITA fans, the Gilda material sequence is well done and not to be missed.

There's a line about why people smoke heavily (I forget the exact words). I suspect the heavy smoking is partly intended to show the characters' emotional state.
