A 1946 movie

For a movie that's over 50 years old, there is alot of talk on the Message Boards. It was a great, and still is, movie. I bet that there will be a remake of it. Brad Pitt and Anjelica Jolie in the starring roles. Or George Clooney and Anjelica Jolie. Any producers out there listening?

I can't think of any film that I come back to with such eager expectation of enjoyment. Is the score not the best ever? Is the colour not ravishing? Have people ever since indulged themselves in such hopeless love? Even the obvious flaws endear it as it is so wholehearted and doom laden. I saw it as a child and I'll come back to it with gratitude again and again.

Yes I'm surprised this film has so many fans. This message board is booming with life!!! I think most of the fans enjoy it for it's over the top tone.

Last film seen: Robert Bresson's Pickpocket - Brilliant!

It has to do with the central character and her love-hate feelings for a guy who rapes her, kills her fiance, and repeatedly re-enters her life while she's steaming with hate for him, only to melt once he's embraced her. I mean, she goes out into the desert to kill him and while doing so professes her deep love for him. That sexual schizophrenia is what attracts people to this story, why Selznick made it, why it turned a good profit, and why it still attracts viewers despite its grade-B dialogue.
