Did anyone else feel there were shades of 'Laura' here?

reply

None at all...outside of both movies had Clifton Webb.

Yes, there is a resemblance of sorts. In The Dark Corner, Webb's character found a painting in Italy, fell in love with the subject, and then found a woman who looked almost exactly like her. In Laura, Dana Andrews falls in love with Gene Tierney's portrait, then meets her in real life, only to fall for her, too. In both films, Webb's character commits murder to keep the woman of the portrait, although in Laura, he tries to kill the actual woman of his affection. (And in Corner, I think that it is at least implied that Webb's character does to his ideal woman what his character did in Laura, that is make her into a society dame--shades of Pygmalion.)
