Deeply disappointing noir (SPOILERS)
There are few twists more frustrating -- more maddening! -- than the one that reveals that everything we have seen heretofore was taking place only in the mind of the hero.
Talk about a cheat.
For me, this device has worked exactly one time: In the great Ambrose Bierce short story "An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge."
Every variation since then... and there have been hundreds of them... has been awful.
THE CHASE was no exception.
