I am fairly confident that the house shown at the bbeginning of this film (the external) is my own. Not only does it bear more than a passing resemblance, it also has been suggested by some town residents. Does anyone know where I could acquire that information???
The one thing I could never stomach about Santa Carla, all the damn vampires!
You could contact the studio, if it's still about, & ask them. You could also have a look in local papers from the time & see if they mentioned filming in the area.
Do you live in Denham, Bucks? I'm pretty sure that's where the film, including the external shots, were recorded.
The house in the play (and movie) was inspired by Noel Coward's own residence in Aldington, Kent. If you listen to the dialogue there are a couple of pointers to this end, although they are a little vague.
:)
Local legend, including my Grandmother, maintains that Madame Arcati was based on the District Nurse who used to cycle very fast down the hills of the village with her cape bellowing out behind her and who was, by all accounts, completely demented (but in a very sweet way)!
I'm so pleased to know that there are other people out there who love and cherish this movie as much as my family and I.

Is that also not the way Margareth Rutherford looked like in the Miss Marple movies ?
I am sorry to dissapoint the questioner(and everyone) but the house used is somewhere on Romney Marsh,Kent,UK;on a ridge looking down to the sea.(I live near there.) Coward saw the house(as he lived in the area) and thought it was emminently suitable. If this IS your house you will know, and of course if not I am too much of a gentleman to say exactly where it is.
Where do you live, winles? I'm trying to work out where the film is supposed to be set, because I think it's pretty close to my parents' home.
Clues: it's set in Sussex; the doctor works in Canterbury; they're near the marshes; in one driving scene, Ashford is 16 miles away; their phone number is Ashford 430; they talk about going to the cinema in Folkestone.
