Can anyone suggest other films that are somewhat similar in comedic tone? Stories involving seances and spirits, ghosts, eccentric old ladies, etc?

The original THE HAUNTING (1963), THE UNINVITED (1944), and THE INNOCENTS (1961) are generally regarded as the best ghost/haunted house movies ever made and I tend to agree.

While GHOST AND MRS MUIR, THE PORTRAIT OF DORIAN GRAY, BLITHE SPIRIT and THE CANTERVILLE GHOST are other examples of well-liked 1940s ghost movies.

'High Spirits' with Peter O'Toole and Darryl Hannah. And there's are several other versions of Blithe Spirit. I've seen the 1966 one on Youtube - with Dirk Bogarde. Madame Arcati was played by Ruth Gordon, Clint Eastwood's Ma in Any Which Way You Can.
