Largely A Rip-Off of "Convicted" (1950)

You'll notice a LOT of similar plot points between this film and 1950's excellent "Convicted". I know, you think I don't understand how dates work, because "Convicted" came several years after this film. But "Convicted" was based on a 1929 play which also spawned two previous film adaptations, in 1929 and 1938. So while this film wasn't a rip-off of "Convicted" per se, it is clearly a rip-off of the source material. Sadly, the filmmakers of "Within These Walls" have chosen not to credit any of the original writers, but at least they have included some new storylines into the mix. Still, you're much better off skipping this tepid one and going for "Convicted", which is a terrific film and does everything this film aims to do much better. My $0.02.
