This is one of my favorite movies of all time, so it's wonderful to have the original screenplay to it! Where did you acquire it?
I prefer the screenplay over Betty Smith's original. Only, because her's was a much different story, more dark and sinister, with the child molestor/rapist throughout it and encountering Francie. I'm glad that was never touched on in the movie.

Makes you wonder how much was filmed and deleted. I read this script you provided, and there were several scenes that seemed not to make it in the final cut. I always wondered why the begining was so choppy. They way they scripted it, it had a very nice flow. I have to wonder if that was filmed and later cut becuase the movie would have been too long, or if this script is an early draft.
