Available in Region 2!

I don't understand why this movie is available in Region 2. I just went to the Amazon web site in the UK and there is the movie on DVD-Why can't we get it here in the U.S.??? I see all this junk being released yet a classic film like this is not on DVD here. I am really at a lose.

do you know if you can get it in canada?

reply

No, it is not available in Canada either. I think we need to start a campaign and write to the 20th Century Fox Studio.

The DVD released in the UK is infact a region 0. So it ought to play on DVD machines the world over.

if you go to turner classic movie's or rotten tomatoes website, you can put your name on a list requesting that the movie distributors carry this movie.

Fox had already prepared this as one of their "Fox Studio Classics" releases. I have seen the cover for it and understand that it contains a commentary track with Ted Donaldson, the actor who plays Neeley in the film. It was scheduled for release and then pulled. Why? I believe that Fox has sub-leased this title in England and France and found that they did not have the right to issue their version until the lease runs out. I would image that the Fox edition will not only have a few nice extras, but that the picture will be cleaned up. I have their Laser Disc release, which is great, but the picture is in need of sprucing up -- and that generally is what they have done for their DVD releases. So let's hope that it won't be too long before we have the opportunity to purchase a Fox DVD release of this wonderful film.
