Annoying background music

I think this is a great movie (but much better book) but one thing that drives me crazy about the movie is the constant annoying background music. In some scenes it works but in others it should have been left out totally. Anyone else?

Mr. Grady, you were the caretaker here.

I think it's kind of nice actually. I always thought he was trying to be realistic and also faithful to the book. It's mostly there during the day scenes.

You've got me?! Who's got you?!

I found the background music, tunes of the period or earlier, to be a valuable supplement throughout this wonderful film. I felt transported back to the early part of the last century in every scene by the accompanying selection. The music was nearly as perfect as the dialogue.

You probably shouldn't watch it anymore. Just read the book again.

reply

Wasn't the point of the music that the area was crowded and noisy, barrel organs were a part of every day life. I thought it was very evocative.

You replied to the wrong poster. I had no problem with the music. It's one of my 10 favorite films. You can delete your post and reply to the correct poster ( the o.p. ).

Altough I love the movie, I find that it is dated. This was director Elia Kazan's firt movie, and if you compare it to his later movies: On the Waterfront, East of Eden, Splendor in the Grass, you can see that this movie is lacking in many ways. Still, his ability to get great performances out of the actors is still there. And I think much of the problems with the movie are probably because techniques he later used were not available to him in 1945. It might be because they hadn't been developed yet, or (probably more likely), he wasn't given the budget to do the movie right. It was shot on a back lot and many of the backgrounds are so obviously fake (such as the scene at the end of the movie when they are on the roof). And yes, the music is intrusive. I do wish they would do a remake of this movie.

Any movie you watch made 70 years before is going to be dated.

Altough (sic) I love the movie, I find that it is dated

All the music was copyrighted within a few years of 1900, the years the story takes place. It is a period piece with period mudic. I have to ask, did you find the backrounf music in The Sting dated?

Found out I suffer from allergic ad populum stultum.
When exposed I break out in arguments.

I also found the music too loud. In some scenes it distracts and detracts from what the characters are doing.

I've watched the movie many times and the music didn't bother me but I just watched it again and found the music way too intrusive and annoying. It was so distracting, so loud I just kept wishing I could turn it down or completely off.
