George Sanders mis-cast?

He looked too old for the part. You need someone who can pull off the nerd act and still be attractive.....Franchot Tone, perhaps? Was Jimmy Stewart too young to play this at the time?

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

I also thought George Sanders seemed miscast. He just seems forever cool and suave to me -swoon- ha. I don't know who would have been a better option , but I wonder what Joseph Cotten or Dana Andrews would have done with it.

He did very well by the part. It was a little jarring because in almost every other film he played a cynical cad.

He did a fine job, but I agree that the casting was strange. George Sanders gives off too much strength and self-assurance to play such a milquetoast.

Tone would have been better, but surely Sanders was wrong for the part. He tried gamely but he was a strong character for such a nerdy part. Sort of like casting Fonda in Leone's western or even Keaton as Batman. Still he did a nice job. The ending on the other hand was absurd.

His age/the fact that he was older than Deborah was brought up by Lettie to Deborah. As I recall, Harry mentioned it when he was telling Deborah how much she changed his life, etc.
