question

I'm watching this movie right now and seeing the scene where Bergman is in the hotel looking for Peck.
The house detective gives her some cards so she could recognize the writing of the man she's seeking.
But how come John Brown remembers his name is john brown, as he only knew his initials? I mean, how can he write down his real name as he didn't know it?

btw the non stop "scientific" bullcrap from Ingrid Bergman is irritating the hell outa me.
I hope she doesn't do that the rest of the movie.

Nah - he's making the name up.

And remember - she's a frigid psychologist. She doesn't know how to act except using her psychoanalytic mind.

Even at that point in the film you can expect that it's a fictitious name ("not much imagination for an alias", as the hotel detective appropriately remarks).
For one thing, like you said he doesn't remember his name, he just knows his initials. But also, even if he would have remembered his name, he would have wanted to stay incognito anyway.

What puzzled me more was that at the desk they seem to keep registration cards sorted so that you can easily single out the "very tall, and attractive, dark hair, a rather rugged face, brown eyes, one suitcase" guests.
