tickets to Rome? Why did she say GA instead of NY?

This part never made any sense to me. In 1945 was Rome, Georgia much more well known than Rome, New York?

Not only was Rome, NY much closer, it would actually have been a stop on the train that they took to Rochester... which I assume is the equivalent of the modern Amtrak "Lake Shore Limited" in that it went from NYC, through the Erie Canal area and on to Chicago.

Also, as an aside note, according to Wikipedia, these two municipalities have almost the exact same population - within 30 people. Bizarre?

My guess is that she wanted to create a false trail in case the ticket-clerk would recognize her picture in the paper. Remember what happened in the hotel. (The policeman was not yet within earshot when they ordered the tickets, and I don't think she had noticed him yet either. It's only when the clerk hands them the tickets that he hears the destination.)

Or maybe she just didn't know there was a Rome in New York, or didn't think of it.

As for the population, it's not bizarre at all. The word is "coincidence".

My best guess is that nobody had ever heard of Rome, NY until Woodstock in 1969. This movie was made way before that.
