Reference to Un Chien Andalou?

During the dream sequence, at one point a guy with scissors slices right through the eye painted on the wall. This has to be a direct reference to the eye slicing scene in Un Chien Andalou, right? Forgive me if this is already a well-documented fact, I couldn't find anything on it.

Possibly, since the dream sequence was made by Salvador Dali himself.

That was my take on it.

"My name is Paikea Apirana, and I come from a long line of chiefs stretching all the way back to the Whale Rider."
