Is Piratesof the Carribean at all based off this movie? It just seems the first pirates movie has some similarities, other than the magic and curse and stuff.

Pirates of the Caribbean uses the swashbuckler genre in general as its source material. The Spanish Main recycles the basic plot structure of The Black Swan, which also had plot similarities to Captain Blood, and The Sea Hawk, all of which have a lot of similarities to the first Pirates movie.

I understood Pirates of the Caribbean was based on a theme park ride. Any similarity to this film is probably just generic.

Shifty crews, sharp cutlasses, tall ships and the Caribbean coast is about all the 2 films had in common.🐭

At one point Henreid tosses a dress at O'Hara and tells her to put it on or he will throw her to the crew without it. Pirates of the Caribbean had the exact same exchange.
