Loved it

I had this movie just sitting on the shelf for over 5 months after I had read that it was about average. Boy, was that review off. This is one of the best noir movie's ever. Uncut, pure Noir! Watch out for the Femme Fatale -- she is waiting for you.

...and superb acting by Edward G Robinson and the great, Joan Bennett!

Count me in, too.
It's always been my favorite film-noir.

Yes, one of the greatest movies of the forties!!!

FANTASTIC!
One of my absolute favorites of all time.
Acting is perfection, sets are wonderful, story is magnificent!

Joan rules.

Nuff said.

Not my favorite, but it is excellent, of that there is no doubt.

Classic film-noir. Let's not forget Dan Duryea who was at his nastiest!!

I was totally floored by the power and mystique that this film displayed. Also, Its one of the best endings that I have ever seen. All actors involved were very convincing in their roles. Its a masterpiece any way you slice it.

I liked almost all of it: the slick New York streets flashing black and white night shadows and contrasts; the contemptible behavior of Kitty and Johnny; and the meek masochistic Chris. But I must say that the ending pales compared to the Renoir version upon which this one was based: La Chienne.

Absolutely one of my favourites too. I really think this is Lang at his best, noir at it's most brutal.

reply

Up until last night (thank you BBC) it wad one of a few Fritz Lang films I'd never seen. Suffice top say, I was blown away by it's brilliance; seductive, dark, morbidly hopeful and typically Lang in every imaginable way. And that ending, well just a haunting, willowing and frightening overplay of a line (Jeepers...I love you) and sentiment that should never have any other context than joy. In completely altering the meaning of the world's most universal sentiment we see Lang at his supreme best.

A simple plot, driven to a magnetic transfixing by three lead performances of sublime quality. Johnny Prince is now officially my favorite film villain. Awesome.

I enjoyed this movie so much until the last 5-7 minutes, which I think are flaky and boring.

I agree. I gave it 9. A very good movie on all levels.

I picked the DVD up from a bargain bin last week for $2.00, as soon as I saw it was a Fritz Lang film with Edward G Robinson & Joan Bennett I knew it would be worth watching.

I like the cut of your jib - Blackadder
