Great Acting by Edward Robinson and Joan Bennett

Robinson's acting was very good, but he's always good. I was very impressed with Joan Bennett.

The way she handled Chris was superb. What a great line when she accused Chris of being a Cave Man. And all because he kissed her on the cheek.

I especially liked the way she paraphrased Chris's description of how long it takes to do a painting. "It might take a day, it might take a year. It all depends." Of course, the voice was feminine but it sounded just like it was delivered by Chris.

I agree Robinson was very good here. He played the "nerd" cashier, hen pecked and timid perfectly at the start. Quite different than other roles I have seen him in. By the end when he was setting Johnny up for murder, it was quite a turn around.

You're spot on in characterizing EGR as nerdish and hen-pecked. I liked the repartee at the coffee shop at the beginning of the film between Chris and Kitty. Even the pauses were brilliant. "Are you an artist?" Long pause "Well, I paint." Brilliant!!
